Task Force to Study Promise Scholarship Program Meeting Schedule Announced

Article by: Artelia C. Gillam

LARGO, MD. — The Task Force to Study a Promise Scholarship Program in Prince George’s County has announced its upcoming task force and county-wide meeting dates and locations.  The 16-member task force, chaired by Charlene M. Dukes, president of Prince George’s Community College (PGCC), is charged with studying the feasibility, academic and financial eligibility requirements, funding sources, and student support services for high school graduates of Prince George’s County public high schools who enroll at Prince George’s Community College.  The group was sanctioned by H.B. 1087.

The group will hold two types of meetings. At the task force meetings, the general public can attend and observe the proceedings only, but can make no comments.  At the county-wide meetings, the general public can make comments.

The county-wide meetings allow a community member a maximum of three minutes to give comments or ask questions.  During task force member meetings, task force members may invite subject matter experts and community members to present information to help inform the task force’s recommendations.

The task force is seeking public comment during the October 10, 2016 county-wide meeting on the following questions:

 1. Would you support financial access for students seeking higher education?

 2. What are your thoughts on how to fund and then sustain this program?

3. What are your thoughts on the eligibility requirements to participate in this program?

4. What are your thoughts on the academic and social supports that students will need to be successful?

To RSVP for the meetings, or for more information, please call 301-546-0034.
