PGCC Exceeds Its #GivingTuesday Goal
LARGO, Md. (November 29, 2017) - On Tuesday, November 28 Prince George's Community College (PGCC) participated in the sixth annual #GivingTuesday movement. Known as the global day of giving, #GivingTuesday is fueled by the power of social media and collaboration and kicks off the holiday giving season.
Prince George's Community College alumni, students, employees, and community members supported #GivingTuesday through the college's "It's Happening Here" campaign. Donors were able to "Take a Seat" and purchase a commemorative plate for a seat in one of the newly renovated Queen Anne Building's three theaters, or create a "Pathway to Success" by purchasing a commemorative brick that will pave the courtyards of the Queen Anne Building as well as the newly renovated and expanded Lanham Hall and the brand new Culinary Arts Center. Individuals were also able to give to the college's "Owl Give" campaign.
Through the generous donations of the PGCC community, the college brought in $10,308, with 11 people "Taking a Seat" and eight creating a "Pathway to Success." Thirty-eight people also gave to the college's "Owl Give" fund.
"We are thrilled that we exceeded our goal and that so many people joined us for this year's #GivingTuesday movement," said Brenda Mitchell, executive director of the Office of Institutional Advancement, Prince George's Community College. "This was a great way to bring the community together and kick off the holiday giving season. This effort generated the most gifts in a single day
from individual donors.”
92Y - a cultural center in New York Center that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around its core values of community service and giving back - conceptualized #GivingTuesday as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving back.
